Discuss how many common emotions/thoughts/behaviors may be archaic and, thus, maladaptive within a cognitive therapy framework.
Demonstrate how anger, jealousy, fear of “different,” violence, etc., underlie many social ills that can be ameliorated through cognitive reframing in therapy.

Explain and demonstrate how therapy techniques can help children and adults develop more adaptive thinking and behavioral strategies to combat outmoded premises.

Demonstrate the need for a greater awareness and sensitivity to issues related to cultural diversity that go well beyond the assumed therapeutic relationship.

Analyze and compare the ethical codes and guidelines of the major mental health professions, with attention paid to important differences.
Describe the manner in which a profession’s “culture” is communicated through codes of ethics and practice guidelines

Explain how a comparative understanding of ethical codes assists in making appropriate referrals and deciding how to seek out needed consultation.

Psychologists – Professional Training Resources is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for Psychologists. Professional Training Resources maintains responsibility for the program and its content.
Licensed Professional Counselors – approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors to offer continuing education activities for National Certified Counselors. We adhere to the National Board for Certified Counselors Continuing Education Guidelines.
Social Workers – This program has been approved for 16 (clinical) , 4 (general) and 3 (ethical) continuing education contact hours by the National Association of Social Workers, Louisiana Chapter, as authorized by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners, and may be applied toward the continuing education requirements for licensure renewal.
