OBJECTIVES:
Explain what to expect as patients age beyond mid-life with an emphasis on the relationship of social, psychological, and physiological changes.
Predict the impact of menopause, empty-nest syndrome, loneliness, sexual dysfunctions, mid-life confusion, etc., that are pertinent to therapists
Discuss the empirical literature on MH diagnoses, treatment responsiveness, and outcomes for patients in mid-life.
Use therapy tools identified in the professional literature to assist patients to transition from youth to middle-age with minimal difficulty.

- Physical changes – menopause, disease, cancer, weight, etc.
- Psychological changes – self-concept, insecurity, anxiety, etc.
- The impact of changes that come with aging

- Empty nest, loneliness, failed goals, sexual difficulties, etc.
- Helping patients navigate pessimism about their future

- Aging and diagnoses, response to treatment, prognosis
