OBJECTIVES:
Describe and discuss prevalence rates for intrafamilial sexual abuse, particularly among first-degree relatives.
Explain risk factors and family dynamics associated with this specific type of abuse for perpetrators and victims/survivors.
Select and utilize treatment options specific to this type of sexual abuse for perpetrators, survivors, and “products” of these unions.
Discuss the ethical pitfalls specific to work with this population.
AGENDA:

Review historical information related to intrafamilial sexual abuse with a particular emphasis on how we obtained prevalence rates in the past.
Discuss how the advent of rampant, low-cost genetic testing (e.g., 23andme, ancestry, etc.) and widespread social media access has changed what we know about the prevalence and dynamics of intrafamilial abuse.
Examine risk factors for both perpetrators and victims/survivors for this specific type of abuse.

Review treatment options specific to this type of sexual abuse for perpetrators, survivors, and “products” of these unions.
Compare and contrast these treatment options with treatment options for perpetrators, survivors, and “products” of sexual abuse by a non-family member.
Discuss the ethical pitfalls specific to work with this population, with a focus on mandated reporting requirements.

Other Professions – may seek apply for education credits through their respective boards. Everyone in attendance will receive a certificate of attendance for 4 clock hours.
