OBJECTIVES:
Understand the impact of a terminal illness diagnosis on mental health – what the research tells us – if anything
List the major ways that terminal illnesses impact mental health, including the diagnosis, treatment, effects on the family, etc.
Describe various treatment options available to offer to terminally ill patients and their families
Design a treatment strategy that prepares the patient and his/her family for dealing with the myriad number of losses possible secondary to the diagnosis of a terminal illness
