July 16th – Schizophrenia Spectrum and other Psychotic Disorders  (presenter:  John C. Simoneaux, Ph.D.)

Discuss how traumatic experiences, especially during childhood, contribute to substance use and addiction and how it makes recovery more challenging.

Explain how integrating compassion into therapy can reduce stigma and enhance client engagement.

July 17th – ADHD:  Assessment and Treatment Across the Lifespan (presenter:  David Williams, Ph.D., M.P.)

List and describe ADHD symptoms and how they vary across the lifespan

Explain risks associated with failing to properly diagnose and treat ADHD

Discuss and apply assessment tools for diagnosing and tracking treatment progress for ADHD and review available and free education resources

Explain common treatment strategies and environmental accommodations, including medication, behavior modification, and CBT for ADHD

Discuss the evolution of evaluating functional impairment in mental health diagnosis and treatment

Describe the current scientific understanding of functional impairment related to mental health symptoms/diagnoses

Utilize tools and specific techniques to assess functional impairment in clients in a clinical setting

Plan how to use functional impairment assessment to guide treatment planning

July 18th – ALPHABET SOUP OF MANUALIZED TREATMENTS (presenter:  Sasha Lambert, Ph.D.)

Discuss and describe major evidence-based treatment protocols, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy

(CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), and Prolonged Exposure (PE)

Compare and explain these protocols using theoretical foundations, therapeutic elements, and assessment and outcome measures

10:00 am – 10:15 am Break

Assess and critique relevant research on effectiveness of these protocols and both client and provider factors that may influence outcomes (i.e., demographics of client and provider, provider training, treatment modality, and treatment fidelity)

Discuss the evidence base for other emerging treatment options, including psychotropic and psychedelic treatment, Somatic Experiencing,

Emotional Freedom Technique, and Stellate Ganglion Blocks

July 18th – ETHICS IN DISTANCE THERAPY (presenter: John C. Simoneaux, Ph.D.)

1:15 pm – 3:00 pm               

Explain what distance therapy is and how it has been referenced in professional ethical codes.

Critique controversies surrounding the practice of distance therapy

3:00 pm – 3:15 pm – Break

Explain the advantages and ethical risks involving the delivery of distance therapy

Utilize careful and prudent guidelines for the ethical delivery of distance therapy

CE APPROVALS:

Psychologists – Professional Training Resources, Inc.  is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for Psychologists.  Professional Training Resources, Inc. maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Licensed Professional Counselors – Professional Training Resources, Inc. has been approved by NBCC as an approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 5829.  Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  Professional Training Resources, Inc. is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

Social Workers – This program has been approved for 20 (clinical) and 3 (ethical) continuing education contact hours by the National Association of Social Workers, Louisiana Chapter, as authorized by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners and may be applied toward the continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. Breakdown of hours:  Schizophrenia (4 clinical), Substance Abuse (4 clinical), ADHD (4 clinical), Functional Impairment (4 clinical), ABC of Manualized Treatment (4 general) and Ethics: Distance Therapy (3 ethical).

Substance Abuse Counselors  – approved by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority for 23 clock hours.

NASP – Professional Training Resources is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists to offer continuing education for school psychologists.  Professional Training Resources maintains responsibility for the program.

Other Professions – may seek apply for education credits through their respective boards.  Everyone in attendance will receive a certificate of attendance for 23 clock hours.
